Who Can Vote?
Anyone who is a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and has lived in North Dakota at least 30 days prior to Election Day has the right to vote!
How Do I Register?
Trick question!! North Dakota does not require voter registration; however, you must have an approved form of identification that can be used for voting.
What are the Approved Forms of Identification?
It’s complicated.
The easiest ID to use is a North Dakota Driver's License. If you have an up-to-date driver's license that includes your residential address (not a P.O. box), consider yourself lucky and go vote!
Don’t have a valid North Dakota Driver’s License, no problem, but there are some hoops to jump through.
You can get a North Dakota Non-Driver ID from the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Visit the ID Card webpage for unstructions and requirements.
Tribal member? Non-member residing within a tribal jurisdiction? You can use a tribal ID or tribal letter to vote.
Resident of a long-term care facility? You can vote with a certification from a long-term care facility. Download the form.
How do I Vote?
There are three ways to vote in North Dakota
Absentee/Vote by Mail (Anyone can vote absentee. No Excuse is needed.)
In Vote by Mail counties, absentee ballot applications are sent out to all eligible voters.
In all other counties, voters may request an absentee ballot application from their county auditor.
Early Voting
Some communities offer in-person Early Voting opportunities on select days and times.
